Lost in Thoughts…

Around 10 years ago, when I was new to the Singapore’s MRT system, I used to get frustrated over the confusion of where I am. It’s hard to believe but I used to doze off during the long ride and couldn’t get my bearing for some time. I used to think why can’t they just put a LED system instead of a plain map. It would be so much easier just to find out where one is.

So, after few years (i think in 2000) they came up with new MRTs with speaker announcement. They wasted millions of dollars to fix all the MRT and personally I feel you can hardly understand the woman. It all sounds grumbled.

So, I was quite pleased to see the first MRT today with LED. It is so much more efficient. It tells you which side door is gonna open and stuff. If only they had done this long ago rather than investing in stupid projects like announcements. *rolls eyes*

  1. LED will not work during peak hours as all you can see is the person’s ass standing infront of you. : )

  2. I learned of a new term lately.

It is called “Not Invented Here” syndrome. When efficient ideas are copied from somebody, it is not World Class enough. When the Hong Kong lady took over, the book was thrown out of the window.

    And now, you have LEDs.

When I was in the MTR trains MANY years ago, I thought it was a good idea.

Why we did not do it?

Well, we still have the rules book back then.

  3. I am staying in another country for a few years now and I would like to assure HH that LED can be seen even in crowded Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo trains, as long as you stand up. LEDs and announcement do not need to be exclusive. Most of the trains have them together. We just need to realise the shortcoming of just having one or the other. Especially the Foreigners in Singapore (who may not understand our heavy accented announcement) can navigate our country with much more ease. I am glad that when I return to Singapore next month, the MRT will have LEDs. It’s time we catch up with the rest of the world. Yeah!!!
